Wim-boule-don

IMG_0004Wear white for wimbledon and 22 people did. We ran a 3 round melee and after round 2 we indulged in a glass of Prosecco or Pimms to prepare us for the torture of round 3. Sue, Martin and Janet were the only 3 game winners and the points differences were +19, +20 and +20. Martin and Janet played a single end decider and Martin was the overall winner.

IMG_0007We took some photos of the day and these will be uploaded to Gallery later. We did think about playing tennis with boules but common sense prevailed but that couldn’t stop Sandra demonstrating her perfect back hand. More Pimms Vicar!

Stage 2

fred mart 2Turf removed yesterday. Not as easy as it sounds as it was very hard and full of stones. Thanks to Martin and Fred who did most of the hard work. Next stage next Thursday 2nd July when we rake and level; after that Thursday 9th add sand, level and flags then Friday 10th Shed arrives.

After that it’s painting, extra security and moving in. Contact a committee member if you can help with any of these tasks.

Don’t forget wear white for wimbledon  this Sunday and take part in a 3 round melee. Looks like a good sunny day in prospect and for Tuesday and Thursday expect a heatwave…

Good evening at the terrain

IMG_0017Wednesday at 5-30pm ladies from Holmfirth Inner Wheel (a type of female rotarian we were told) came to the terrain to learn the game and played a mini tournament of 3 games. Everyone had a good time and some impressed us with their learning curve. Boules that at the beginning of the session were many metres from the coche started to rest on the coche at the end.

Incredibly after 3 games the three who had won all three games (seated above)  all had the same points difference so we had to have a one boule shoot-off. The winner in the centre is showing off her small but perfect trophy. The other two took home medals and everyone received a Certificate of Attendance. More pictures in Gallery.

Bad day at the office

league
Not a good result at Heckmondwike. In fact a very bad one. We lost 0-5 with a points difference of -33. The day was fine; the new surface at Heckmondwike played well; they were excellent hosts but the bottom line is that they played better than us. Much better  than us. And it showed in the scores.

Table updated on local league page. Leeds also beat Mirfield this week and at the halfway stage of the league we are still second but Heckmondwike are looking good.

Longest Day melee

£1Our first 4 round melee went well. 17 people turned up and paid their pound and after 4 rounds 3 players had won 3 of their games.

They were Pat, Martin and the best of the 3 time winners was Brendan who got his entry fee back. But two players had won all 4 games and Janet was beaten into second by Julie W who had a very respectable points difference of +29 to Janet’s 19. They won £10 and £5 respectively. Cold and occasionally showery but a good day out. Only took 3 hours for 4 games.

Date for your diary  – Thursday 23rd July there will be an all day 5 game melee. Bring your lunch as it’s a 1030 start. We hope to have a few players from outside for this one. Another entry fee means more cash prizes.
