Longest Day melee

£1Our first 4 round melee went well. 17 people turned up and paid their pound and after 4 rounds 3 players had won 3 of their games.

They were Pat, Martin and the best of the 3 time winners was Brendan who got his entry fee back. But two players had won all 4 games and Janet was beaten into second by Julie W who had a very respectable points difference of +29 to Janet’s 19. They won £10 and £5 respectively. Cold and occasionally showery but a good day out. Only took 3 hours for 4 games.

Date for your diary  – Thursday 23rd July there will be an all day 5 game melee. Bring your lunch as it’s a 1030 start. We hope to have a few players from outside for this one. Another entry fee means more cash prizes.

Longest Day Melee

DateNext Sunday is a slightly different event. We’re running a melee with 4 games as it’s going to be light well into the evening as it’s the longest day of the year and the nights start drawing in afterwards. It’s an open event so anyone can play not just club members although it helps to know how to play the game. We may have visitors from other clubs.

We do have some spare boules for newbies. Entry fee £1 with prizes to the winners. Draw takes place for first round at 1pm prompt. A wonderful afternoon of fun, frustration and finally for some fine fellow first place and a few fivers.

2nd League fixture

leagueHeckmondwike were the opponents this afternoon in Greenhead Park and after 5 matches it ended 3-2 to the visitors. The two triples were shared but Heckmondwike had a purple patch in one match when they scored a 6 and a 4 in 2 consecutive ends which effectively won the match.

The pairs were going Heckmondwike’s way  – 2 wins from the first two games but Huddersfield came back to win 13-12 in the last game to finish. Could have been so much worse in that last game – Heckmondwike had  3 boules in hand to beat a Huddersfield boule about 15 inches from the coche but couldn’t do it! Latest table after we get the result of the Leeds/Mirfield match this week.

Congratulations to the team – Brendan, Roy, Julie, Phil, Christine & Paul.

Triples postponed

tripelIt was a dull day but at 1pm we only had 16 players which made it difficult to play the planned Triples event. Everyone agreed to do a pairs event and we’d hold the triples later in the summer.

So we made up some teams and started on a 3 round snake with maybe a final at the end. Another player turned up so she joined an existing team which was already in play.

At the end of 3 round only 2 teams had won all their games. Martin & Julie with +29 points and Paul, Sandra & Janet with +19. So a comfortable win for Martin & Julie.

At this point some went home as it had been an on/off rainy type of afternoon but the top two teams decided to play a final. This had added spice as Sandra knew Martin & Julie well as she was Martin’s mum. And the match went the way of the oldies as Paul, Sandra and Janet beat Martin & Julie 13-4.

First league match.

leagueWe opened our account in the first game of the newly formed West Yorkshire League with a magnificent 5-0 win over league favourites Leeds.
Leeds had player problems with one member being too ill to attend but Phil stepped in to play for them. Under the league rules we won these two games to 7 as byes.
This was a good scalp to take and the best possible start to the 6 match league.
Our squad for this opening game was Fred, Malcolm, Sandra, Julie W, Brendan and Roy.
