Poundland

£1Today we tried a new event. A 3 round melee with an entry fee of £1. It had been trailed on literature and on noticeboards and the blog but still took a few by surprise. Despite that 16 people paid their pound and we played 3 rounds in about 2 hours.

After the scores were in  only one player had won all three games and that was Martin who walked away with the £10 first prize. Malcolm had the best points difference of the players who won two games. The other two times winners were Rita, Roy, Sue, Marie, Paul & Jane. Still time for some extra games afterwards and the club put £1 into club funds. There’ll be a few more £1 melees over the summer. Next one Tuesday May 12th.

Bench and bench master

The first in a long series. This is the refurbished bench created for the club by Brendan and the technical team and already has had plenty of use. More will be arriving in the next few weeks.

And here is the bench master enjoying the sun.

Martin who is also working on this project has yet to be photographed sitting on the bench…

By the time the big events arrive in the summer we hope to have 5 or 6 benches plus a shed and some landscaping around the terrain, a noticeboard, a hedge extension and a new gate.

AGM Report

subsAll went as planned. Minutes and revised constitution are available on the Club Info page. Significant growth as the club was estimating membership at 40 at the first AGM but actually reaching 71 (and 2 more joined at the AGM).

Both income and expenditure were double what was thought but we finished with a surplus partly due to receiving a grant to help us develop the terrain by providing benches, noticeboard and a shed. Subs were increased to £12 a year.

We look forward to another good year. Many landscaping works are planned and will be in place in the next few months. Time to pay your subs and if we haven’t seen you for a while time to call in now the sun has started shining again and have a game of two.

Thursday afternoon club

copy-partie_delille.gif Now it’s light enough to play in the evening we will. We’ll start at 6pm and play until the light goes. There will always be a committee member there and we can open the jail house, sorry club house, at 5-30 to chat, look at noticeboard and then take stuff up to the terrain.

16th of April – the official opening of evening play we had 10 people which is a good start. However a few die hards are so used to playing on Thursday afternoons that they are going to continue. No problem. We can’t always guarantee a committee member to open up the clubhouse and provide rings etc but you don’t need that do you…

So if anyone wants to turn up at 1pm on Thursday it’s very likely that you’ll find a few members there.

Late Easter Report

eeggssEaster Sunday saw nearly 20 members take part in a melee which also was the first event in the summer league. Julie was the winner, Brendan was 2nd, Barrie 3rd and Robin 4th. Weather was great and we had a good day with the top 10 receiving an egg of sorts. Next event is Sunday 3rd May. Photos in the Gallery.
