Huddersfield Petanque v Heckmondwike 9th Sept 14 007[1]

After the first round it was 3 games each; after the second round Heckmondwike were leading 7-5 but following a phenomenal 3rd round where Huddersfield won 5 out of 6 games it finished as a 10-8 victory for Huddersfield. Points difference was +12 to Heckmondwike but it’s wins that count. A fantastic performance from Huddersfield. Here’s the scores. Notice how close the third round was. It could all have been sooooo different.

Thanks to everyone who helped out in erecting the gazebo, hauling the chairs to and from the store room, attaching the banner to the railings and generally being helpful. It looked a bit full at times on the terrain but there were the largest number of players ever on there… About 33. Add in a few spectators and a Tournament Director ( Ted) and it was about 40.

Here’s to the next match in the endless series…

We are a team, we are a club

The Northern Pairs event at Heckmondwike went ahead with 10 teams on Sunday in glorious sunshine. Sue & Pauline (the Soup) played brilliantly and won 3 of their 5 games. Sally and Roy (The Udders) played well but did not manage a win. Not surprisingly the Lucky Chuckers won the event as the only team to get 5 wins.
(Lovely shirts)

We hit the half century

50mphTaster sessions started in October 2013; the organisation was constituted on 13th April 2014 and 20 weeks later we have recruited 50 members. Our basic plan was 40 members in year 1 but we have exceeded this comfortably. I did hope for 50 before Xmas but now I think we can think even bigger. Welcome to all 50 of you. The numbers at the regular club sessions are growing and it all looks good. Roy did ask a few weeks ago “How many members can we cope with?” Over to you members…

Record attendance for Thursday

Jeff Beck - Hi-Ho Silver Lining17 people, some of them on time…  But a great evening. Although some left early many games were played and the light lasted until well after 8.

Fast becoming our most popular day with club members although Sunday is better with walk-ins.

If we start at 1730 for the next three weeks it should be fine. Still half a dozen spectators some of whom promised to return.
