Bridlington Weekend

3 days of petanque with a different competition each day over the bank holiday weekend.

There were 22 pairs entered on Saturday. Brendan and Nell achieved a brilliant 3rd place. Pete & Margaret had 12th place with 2 wins, Robin & Rita 14th with 2 wins and Mike & Moira also had 2 wins & 18th place.

22 Mixed Pairs on Sunday and Robin & Rita took 7th place with 3 wins. Didier & Dominique a marqué 2 victoires pour 12eme. Pete & Margaret 14th. Brendan & Nell 16th place. Team Farnley made 19th.

Monday’s Triples only had 14 entries. Brendan & Nell teamed up with a player from another club and won 2 games but only placed 13th. This shows is that HPC teams can compete at regional level.

West Yorks Cup Final

The final of the West Yorkshire Cup on Tuesday 22nd August was a re-run of last year’s final, and with the same result: a 3-2 win to Leeds.

HPC women won their triples match after the agony of going from 11-0 up to 12-12. Our mens’ triple team lost in a hard-contested match. In the mixed pairs, Brendan and Nell won.

All we can do is vow to re-double our efforts to build the squad and train hard for the 2024 summer season.

£1 melee Thursday

Over 20 people paid their money and played a 3 round melee on Thursday. There were 3 cash prizes who went to Pete in 3rd – the best of the 2 game winners

Sue mac who was second with 3 wins

And First Prize to Mel with 3 wins and a better points difference.

And yes nearly a dozen people went to the pub to sit outside in the sun.

Huddersfield Pairs 13th August

HPC’s open pairs tournament survived very wetting showers interspersed with blazing sunshine. 15 pairs competed, with the hosts having members in the prize money in positions 2, 3, and 4. The winners – Two Foxes from Stockton Fox – won all five matches with a creditable 32 points. Well done Ralph and Robert. Thanks to all HPC members who helped to make the day run so smoothly. Monthly melee update

The first ever 3 way tie for a place as 3 players had 2 wins and +9. In these cases the points available are totalled (21 being the sum of 8, 7 & 6 points) and then divided by the number of players who are tied (3) then each receives their share (here 7). So far in the second half of 2023 we have had 34 members playing in the monthly melee. Some haven’t scored a point yet but everyone will be listed in the final table in December. E & OE.
