Cup Final Heartbreak

Brendan presents the trophy to Leeds squad after their 3-2 victory in the West Yorkshire Cup Final at Heckmondwike in August. We won 2 games but lost in the crucial final game 12-13. Both sides had chances to win but it didn’t go our way. This is the third time we’ve reached the final only to be beaten by Leeds three times. Maybe next year. All photos taken by Roy Henstock.

Mens triple was Steve, Robin and Pete.

Ladies Triple was Rita, Nell & Margaret.

Winter is coming

Yesterday 12 HPC players went to Mirfield for the last event of the summer season. The best performance was Kevin and Christine who won 4 out of their 5 games and came 5th out of 19 teams. Full results at https://www.yorkshirepetanque.co.uk/EventResults.aspx?Ty=CR&TN=1282

We now look to winter league for regional sunday events. It was encouraging to see so many HPC players there and hopefully more will try regional events in the future. If you’re thinking about it ask someone who played at Mirfield to tell you their story.

If you’re going to try a winter league you’ll need a partner, a chair, a full set of waterproofs and some solid shoes. There can be early starts and dark drives home and the occasional snow or rain shower but it’s a great day out. 4 of the venues are in Kirklees.

The Winter league table for 24/25 can be seen on YP website. Highest ranked HPC members are Brendan and Nell in 22nd place. Kevin is in 10th place but listed as a Mirfield player. 17 HPC members played at least one game last winter. The 25/26 winter league starts in 10 days.

Grail Trophy

Despite having to field 2 triples and 4 pairs against the mens 6 pairs the women took the Grail Trophy on Sunday afternoon overturning two years of wins by the men. Lovely afternoon and much drier than the forecast.
