Scones & Cream

Thursday afternoon was the next effort in our fundraising campaign for Beau. Following a Hamper draw and a small change donation bucket both of which were very successful this time we all bought a scone or 3 (or a slice of ginger cake) and raised over £65 in the afternoon. Well done the Social committee and the bakers.

Next and final fundraiser will be the Charity Pairs with Raffle on Sunday 20th March. We have 14 teams entered at present and hope to have many more. You haven’t entered yet? What’s stopping you? We’ve ordered a sunny day with 13 degrees and it’s for a great cause. Sign up in the clubhouse or ask a committee member

Sportswashing in Greenhead Park

It started early on Thursday with a group of club members armed with marigolds, buckets, brushes, panscrubs, brasso, meths, white spirit, Cillit bang and lashings of clean water & improvised towels and about 80 assorted boules and 30 boule bags. Thanks to Jackie, Jane, Yvonne, Pete and Margaret for coming down to help.

90 minutes later we had sorted, cleaned, marked and bagged over 30 good sets of 3 matching boules mostly in a new boule bag and stored them in the shed for use by visitors and members who didn’t yet have their own set . And here is the end product – our very own boule bank. The large bag at the bottom has about 15 boules in it that we couldn’t sort into matching sets.

We’re always happy to receive unwanted sets of boules from people who have given up the game for whatever reason and also happy to lend these to new clubs to get them started. Email FAO Sportswashing Officer at HPC. See contact us page.

March Melee

Twenty Three members took part in the March Melee and we actually completed 3 rounds!!  This follows the January and February Melee which were called off due to inclement weather before the second rounds really got underway.

So we enjoyed nice weather and chocolates and the remants of the cheese from Tuesday’s Wine and Cheese event.

Maureen again did very well – it seems to be Maureen’s speciality, but was pipped for top place by Graham. Also with 3 wins were Yvonne and Christine. Next one is April 3rd.

Cheese, Wine and Hamper

1st March was the meteorological first day of Spring. And it was nice sunny day. The plastic chairs were out and members enjoyed a casual melee where we didn’t keep scores and also had a cheese and wine picnic after the first round. It was so warm that most sat outside in the sun for some time. Then we drew the raffle for the Hamper that was going to raise money for Beau’s Campaign and this brought in a magnificent £150.

Jane won the Hamper. Next event for Beau is the scone and jam scoff on Thursday afternoon and then the charity Pairs on 20th March. We have 14 teams signed up so far and hope to get over 20. See the notice in the clubhouse.

It’s not stopped raining since Tuesday.

Valentines Pairs

The Valentines event took place in nice weather – the wind and rain had gone by the time we played at 1.00pm. There was an uneven number of Ladies & Gents so an executive decision was made to play a melee and award prizes to the top Lady and top Gent.

No player won 3 games a most unusual occurence and the winners were Sue W and Nigel, with runners up Rita W and our new member Steve – actually playing his first ever game!!

See attached photo with winners holding their exclusive Valentine Toblerones and runners up getting a chocolate orange .
