Happy New year!

Happy-New-Year-image-1The monthly member melee was washed out today. Six brave souls turned up and played a triple in light rain but halfway through the second game it became heavy rain so we gave up. Just for the record Paul, Daniel and Robin beat Roy, Rita and Brendan. Twice.

There will be more events in January – next week is a tactics talk in the Community room plus some practice games if the weather is OK afterwards. 17th Is a Snow Boules event. Basically just some social games but we’ll provide hot soup to keep you warm. 22nd is Club Xmas dinner with raffles, spot prizes and surprises. Then it’s February.

The basic rules and the menu for the Xmas Dinner in January.

On Sunday 27th at 1pm there will be a Mince pies & Sherry & Mulled wine melee. No prizes – just seeing if Santa bought anyone some new boules…

Our Xmas dinner is in January…

plumOn the 22nd to be precise. Last year we did this and members seem to want to do it again. So the Conservatory in the park will host us again on Friday 22nd January 2016.

Cost is £14-95 for three courses and as usual we will have raffles and spot prizes. The venue now is better than last year as they have added a bar and will remain open until 11pm!

We hope to start taking bookings this Sunday at our first talk session in the community room in the park. Sue will put you on the list in return for a £10 deposit. If you’ve not heard about the talk session we’ll be looking at the rules of petanque and explaining what they mean. Everyone welcome.

Yvonne wins December Melee

MeleeOnly one player won all their games this afternoon and it was Yvonne. With a handy points difference of +21 after winning them all 13-6 she was a clear winner on a chilly afternoon.

Michael, David, Brendan and Paul all won 2 to take the minor placings. 13 players.

Next event is Learn the rules on Sunday 13th at 1300 followed by Winter Pairs on Tuesday 15th 1300 just £2 per team. Cash Prizes.

League finished

leagueToday our team played in the last round of games in the Kirklees Autumn League. Roy, Michael, Paul, Pat, Rita W and Christine won 4 games and lost 1 resulting in a 3rd place out of 5 teams in the final table. Heckmondwike took 1st and 2nd places, Mirfield 4th & 5th.

It was a bad day; light rain to start but getting worse all the time. The tea and coffee in the clubhouse after the games was very welcome.

The trophy was presented to Heckmondwike and you can see pictures on their website. We used 18 players throughout the season and played 40 games winning 20 of them. More details on the League Tab on the menu bar.
