Volunteers needed

keep-calm-and-volunteer-93All 3 committee members are away in the next few weeks at various times so we need a few people to help out at Club sessions starting Sunday. All you have to do is organise games, welcome interested onlookers and hold a few boules, coches, and associated stuff.

Contact Chair on 07977772971 if you can help.

Next Competition

green boulesWeather forecast looks good for Sunday and also for Tuesday 10th June which will be our second competition. Like the first it will be a melee so any number can play – just turn up 10 minutes before the start time of 1pm to be allocated a partner for the first round of games.

There’ll be a second and third round with a random partner each time and we’ll keep score as we go.  The winner will be the person who wins most games. In the event of two or more with the same number of wins we’ll look at points difference to determine the winners.

Club members only. No entry fee. No prizes. Roy will be organising the games and keeping the score. We have some spare boules to lend you. Be early !!

And the winner is…

winnerSunday 25th May. First Club competition is a 3 round melee and 10 people turn up. First real exposure to a competitive format but everyone copes well and after 3 hard fought rounds the winner is Michael who wins all 3 games. Sandra also wins 3 but Michael has a better points difference. Malcolm is 3rd with 2 wins.

Post script.

gazebo

The club needs a gazebo. We’ve looked around on ebay  and Argos and we could buy one for about £20 but we wonder if any club member has one they don’t want in their garage.

Any colour will do; sides are a bonus : Any size will be OK. If you have one to donate please let us know.

DVDs to borrow.

Roy has acquired from Northern region  2 DVDs about how to play Petanque. Ask him on a club day to borrow them and improve your game.

Next Competition is Tuesday 10th June.

Melee this sunday

MeleeOur first club competition is Sunday 25th May starting at 1pm. (Be early so we can organise who plays with who). We’ll play 3 rounds with a random draw for partners before each round. We’ll keep scores and add it all up at the end and someone will be the winner. No entry fee, no prizes and it’s for club members only.

You’ll need a set of boules (although club has about 6 spares sets to lend out) and that’s about it. We will play to the rules in general and the idea is to have a good afternoon out. There will be a brief briefing before we start so you can ask any questions then.

Lazing on a sunny afternoon

kinksTuesday and Thursday turned out quite well. The sun shone (for a while) and the president of the Northern Region came along for a game on Tuesday. He said nice things about our terrain and about 10 members turned up for game. Most members said they learned a lot from playing with an experienced player.

Thursday was the first real Thursday as last week was rained off. 12 players were there at various times and we played until well after 8pm. Signed up 5 new members so I reckon we’re on 36.
