Mid July. A telephone conversation with KMC reveals  that work has started and is expected to finish by the end of the summer holidays. It’s looking good. A large terrain about 30m by 12m. plenty of room around it for landscaping and good distant views over the hills.

There are elements that should be incorporated but we’ll have to negotiate these in meetings in the next months. We should be playing in a couple of months.

No real news. Many people around the region are keeping their eyes on this project. Informal contact says Mirfield will be built first  as funds are available but there were rumours that Greenhead had been started. A site visit established that nothing had been done but the resources crucial to a Petanque club are mostly in place. We tested toilets, cafe and also found a community room that is available for hire which seems a good place to hold meetings and eat sandwiches on rainy days. All these are within 80m of the proposed terrain. Parking was not as bad as expected. We spotted 20 parking spots on public roads within a few minutes of the site.

Let’s hope we see progress this summer.

The ritual email to the Council elicits the facts that plans have been drawn up for a 10 lane terrain in Greenhead Park (and also a 6 lane terrain in Mirfield in Memorial Park). No dates for starting the works as they have to be fitted in among other things ( not my words.)

St Patrick’s day

No written exchanges for some time but met an officer from Parks Dept and she assured me that  plans had been drawn up for Greenhead Park. Still all very vague but at least we’re talking to each other. For info Heckmondwike now has an extension with room for 8 large or 10 small pistes and Mirfield has had plans drawn up but no-one’s seen them either. I’ll ask this week to have a peek.

Some progress. We’ve sent an email to KMC explaining how a petanque club works. They asked us. Apparently Friends of Greenhead park wanted to know. I’ve also heard that the ward councillors are still keen and want it done by the end of this year. More news later.
