Pennine Pairs Results

Another good day at the terrain with one entry on the day making 15 pairs playing. Age UK our sponsors bravely entered a team and they won a game but lost two.

After 3 rounds there were playoffs to settle 5th place and 3rd place as teams had identical scores. Both these playoffs took very little time as in each the first boule rested on the coche and couldn’t be shifted by the opponents.

First place and £50 went to Perfectly Placed (Pete & Margaret); second after a playoff was Chris & Kev (Christine & Kevin); third was Camilla Parker Boules (Jan & Sue W); fourth was Ever Hopeful (Sue C & Jane G) and fifth after another playoff with £10 was Gryphoncall (Brendan & Nell). Thanks to the Age UK Allstars team (Rachel & Carol) for taking part and sponsoring the afternoon.

The weather was kind but there was quite a lot of wind on the terrain as the afternoon wore on. Many thanks to the terrain rakers, the ground crew for setting out the scorers and rings, the visitors from other clubs and the audio technicians for supplying the PA system. Here’s the winners. More photos later.

Pete and Margaret were perfectly placed to pick up the prize money and a permanent petanque player trophy

Evening All

A change of pace and a change of place. Thursday 23rd at 6pm saw a short melee where teams played to 10 points. 20 players sprinted though 3 games in 135 minutes. Third place went to new member Joyce with 2 wins, 2nd place was Sue W also on 2 wins but with a better points difference but the only player to win all 3 games was Jan. Members also demolished a table full of nibbles such as blue corn chips, sweet potato crisps,.olives, manchego, feta, chorizo and italian meats.

After this and a rapid tidy up the party moved to the Junction where the chair gallantly bought all of the players a drink. They all agreed it was a great evening and decided to do it again next month.

Strawberries & Prosecco

A full terrain yesterday with 12 players from HPC and Mirfield playing a league match and over 20 others playing social games. The league result was 2-3 but the highlight of the day was the food and drink and raffle. Loads of strawberries and prosecco including for the players from Mirfield and the raffle raised over £70 for our charity this year which is Prostate Cancer. Much more sunshine than was expected. Another great day at the terrain.

Coaching

The club has arranged for Dag Nygaard, regional coach to hold a training/coaching session on Tuesday 28th June at 1000.

Anyone can attend. If you are a member of Yorkshire Pétanque it will be free. If you’re not it will be £3.

It will not be a “How to play” session like Boule School. It will be a “How to shoot and advanced techniques” session.

A list will be put on the noticeboard in the clubhouse shortly
