First game just about completed then it threw it down. A majority of players in the clubhouse decided to go home. Consequently it was all abandoned and no points were awarded in the Spring Melee competition. We had enough time to take a picture of some of the players.
The Xmas lights were switched on with a genuine elf from Golcar. Being as it was early afternoon the lights didn’t shine very brightly but the Xmas elf shortly afterwards collected her prize for winning the Autumn melee.
The second presentation was for the Champion of Champions Trophy. This is calculated from 7 of the major club events with points allocated for top 5 and added up to produce what is effectively the “player of the year” result. 2021 winner is Robin.
More Christmas elves appeared.
After the first round there were mince pies and mulled wine inside the clubhouse and the raffle for Xmas baskets was drawn. Winners were Maureen, Kathy & Margaret and the final amount raised this year for our chosen charity – Age UK – was over £350.
The raffles were organised by the social committee and two of them were at the draw. A huge thank you to the team who put on great events and raised a substantial amount. Next year they’ll do it again and we’re looking to choose a new charity for 2022. Give us your suggestions.
Finally as the sleigh of a sozzled Santa cruises past the Castle Hill of destiny HPC wishes you all a merry Christmas and looks forward to a full year of playing petanque.
An amazing number of people on the terrain for the final melee of 2021. Although only three players could win it wasn’t decided until they last game of the day. Maureen couldn’t improve on her 33 points, Sue improved by 3 to reach 29 but Christine improved by 11 to jump to 37 and top the table.

The July event was abandoned but over the 6 months from August to December 40 people played. Some didn’t score any points and these have been removed from the records.. Next one starts January 2nd. The trophy will be engraved and on view in the clubhouse. Here’s the winner
It’s going to be a lady winner next month. There are 3 at the top of the rankings and any one of them can win. It’s going down to the wire… These are the November scores. Yvonne and Alasdair have been amended.
Kirklees Wellness Service popped in for a taster session on Wednesday 3rd November. They’d never played before but had tried Crown Green bowls and Boccia so had an inkling of what it was about. After a 5 minute tutorial on the game we played for nearly 90 minutes before rain stopped play.
There’s more than in this photo but it had just started to rain so some were taking cover. The group is thinking of a regular monthly session but they wisely decided to wait for next spring and warmer drier weather.
