Top of the ladder

Semi finals and final were played today.

Roy and Brendan managed to lose their semi-finals which left Sue and Elizabeth to contest the final.

It was close but the first ladder winner is Sue with Elizabeth runner up.

We’ll be running further ladders in the future.

Sunday & Tuesday – 2 big days for our club.

On Sunday we travel to Mansfield to play against one of the bigger clubs in the UK. So there won’t be anyone to open the old club house. There will still be some members there no doubt and play can go ahead but it won’t be a typical Sunday. It’ll be quiet.

On Tuesday we take possession of the new clubhouse. It’s also called the community room. We have keys, we will be moving stuff from the park ranger room and we’ll be making a celebratory cup of coffee and munching on a biscuit. Come along and see it, have a cuppa and a hob nob, help shift stuff and throw in your ideas about what we can do with the room.  We’ll be there from noon.

We have booked it for our 3 regular sessions but can also use it if it’s free at other times. We will share it with other community organisations but they won’t be there at the same time as us. We also have access from inside the room to the public toilets so if someone closes them at 2pm we can still use them.

In the Summertime…*

The clocks have moved forward and there is now light at 6pm in the evening. In previous years we have restarted Thursday evenings at this point but the committee decided this year to defer starting until after the AGM and to stop Thursday evenings at the end of August.

There wasn’t quite enough daylight (and good weather) and we had to constantly move the start and finish times to accommodate these factors. So from May the 4th we start 6pm on Thursday and we end on 31st August.

Some of these Thursdays will be Lemonade melees where we bring a bottle, club provides nibbles, we keep score and someone wins on the evening but nobody remembers who…

Title? The 3rd best selling single of all time was released in 1970. If you can remember the artiste you’re old enough to join HPC.

Jeudi soir

Daniel records his second winter title

We knew it was going to be his victory but despite a poor result in March Daniel showed his pedigree and is the first person to win a league season trophy twice. Congratulations to him.

We’re sure you’re all wondering why the Petanque player is wearing a pink tutu. The answer is simple. Previous winner Marie wanted a lady player trophy but all we had was a man player trophy so she ran up a quick dress/tutu on her Singer to rectify this equality issue.

Some simple stats. 30 players took part and collected a point but this table doesn’t list players who failed to trouble the scorers at all. There were 10 of them.

Only 2 players took part is all 6 events and they came 1st and 4th. One player played one event and won it!

Summer melee starts May as as we have an away day on first Sunday in April. See you then!
