December Triples

pet4

A cosmopolitan flavour to our Triples event. Players from The Fox, Wetherby, Heckmondwike, Mirfield as well as Huddersfield turned up, some in mixed club teams to try for the massive cash prizes on offer. Only 2 teams won all 3 games.

It was cold but light and we fitted in 3 rounds before the light went.

TNT (Fred and Elizabeth Tidball with Roger Nunns squashed between them had a points difference of +19 but lost out to the In Laws +1 with a points difference of +21.

Only 2 teams won 2 games. Bouncing bombs ( Harry, Anne & Pam) and Nemesis +1 (Kevin, Christine and Janet) both had the same points diffference of +11 and were joint 3rd.

We also drew the Xmas baskets raffle and Alan from the winning team won one of these and Marie from Huddersfield the other. The raffle made £58 most of which goes  our annual charity.

Compliments of the season to all. We won’t be playing on Xmas day but Tuesdays and Thursdays continue.

Mini Hampers

img_0586-1The club has put together 2 Xmas hampers worth hundreds of pounds (allegedly). These are on display in the clubhouse and tickets are on sale until 18th December when the winners will be drawn at the Winter Triples competition. Tickets will be on sale every club session until then. You’ve got to be in it to win it. Roll up! Roll up!

How to make a maltese cross. Try and play their game “Bocci”

Number 1

How do you make them even more cross, Do it again.

Number 2

This is the club’s first attempt at video in a post. We might get better. Maltese game of Bocci is played with green and red boules plus green and red cuboid blocks of wood. However they do speak English! You might spot some players you know here.

December melee

MeleeJust made it before the light went and the winner on the day was Kevin with 3 wins and +16. He’d left before the presentation so we turned to Marie and Barrie who both scored 3 wins and +8. Marie had left as she’d left a chicken in the oven… (this is gettng boring) so we gave the impromptu prize to Barrie. (A chocolate Santa). Only 3 players won 3 games.

80 not out

80Never thought we’d get there but we have. On Sunday our membership for the year hit 80 members. Jim joined while on a flying visit from Leeds.

Our next target is 90. A century is possible as when we started 50 was a pipe dream.

The only problem this causes is when all 80 members turn up on the same day but fortunately some of our members are enjoying the winter sun in Spain & Tenerife; some are on holiday; some don’t come out in winter and some live a long way away in Wigan so we don’t see them often.

But it’s nice to hit a milestone. This sunday is members melee. Record attendance is 34. Will we beat it?
