Two events at the end of October need your support. One is for a good cause – The Stroke Association –  and one is for members to socialise and raise some money for Club Funds.

Thursday afternoon at 1pm on 29th October is our Give a Hand event on behalf of The Stroke Association. We’ll be playing 3 round melee but the first round will be played with your “other hand” as stroke victims often lose the use of one hand.

There will be a £3 entry fee which includes a raffle ticket and all proceeds will go to the Stroke association. Winner will receive a trophy to keep and 2 next best will receive medals.

 

Friday evening 30th October at 7-30 in Marsh Club there will be a quiz night for members and friends including a pie & peas supper. There will be several quizzes on the night some based on your TV favourites. Some will be individual like Huddersfield’s version of 15 to 1. After supper there will be monster quiz for teams of 4. Entry fee will be £5 per person. There will be a licensed bar and a a raffle.

We hope you can attend one or both of these events. There will be posters in the Clubhouse. Please let a committee member know if you want to attend either. Limit for both events is 40 people.

Great Day on Sunday 4th October. 28 people arrived for our first round of the winter league. a few hours later after some excellent games Roy emerged as the winner with 3 wins and a very impressive +28 points. Full results and league table on Winners tab. David M was second and Sue 3rd.

We also announced a members meeting for noon on Sunday 11th but we got the date wrong. It’s Sunday 18th in the community room. See you then! Next Sunday is just a friendly game of petanque or two.

This was played on Monday at 1030. It was a bit of a rush to get a team together at short notice but Paul, Phil, John, Mick, Rita, Rita, Sandie, Robin and Marie went to Mirfield in the early morning fog and did quite well for a team that only found out they are a team 18 hours before the match. We lost 2-3 but all players played well and the last game was a 13-12 defeat when it could easily have been a 13-12 victory. Results and Table are on this site under leagues.

From a field of 24 players and 8 teams the winners and new club Triples champions are MMR (Mick, Mel and Rita) who as well as being the only team to win all three of their pool games also had a very good win in the final where they beat La Famille Livesey (Sandra, Martin & Julie).

In addition to this members were treated to Cassoulet and Cassis and home made baguettes provided by Brendan (with duck and sausage imported from various parts of Europe) to rapturous applause at the end.

Next event is Winter League first melee on 4th October. Free to members. Scores kept through to March 2016 where someone will be top of the table. This winter we’re only counting your best 3 scores  See you then.

The blogmaster has been away (playing petanque in France) so here’s a summary of what’s been going on.

Summer League winner is Roy!!!

See the final league table on the winners page. Winter League starts first Sunday in October and the format is changed slightly so only your best 3 scores count. Others can be discarded.

Mediterranean Garden finally arrives!!

Promised earlier in the year but it’s done now. Sculptures, baskets, carved logs and lots more. No doubt we’ll see gorgeous mediterranean colours in the spring.

In the meantime here’s a man sitting on a log.

 Tuesday Afternoon Melee

12 members, including 1 new, played a £1 melee on Tuesday 15th September. Only 2 players achieved 3 wins and the winner was Rita W on 3W +23 winning £8 closely followed by Roger on 3W +22 winning £4. No pictures of this historic event.

Kirklees Autumn League starts.

3 clubs (but 5 teams) are taking part in this league which runs through September for 10 weeks. Brendan is Team Manager and has started some training and team building sessions. First fixture is Tuesday 29th at Mirfield.

Potential for new coaching session.

Another northern player who is competing his coaching badges soon said he may be able to offer some coaching soon. Roy is watching this one. We’re very keen for players who play in league matches to undertake some coaching.

Finally the club Triples this sunday. 

Club Triples Competition. Free and members only. Agree your team in advance or take pot luck on the day. 3 (yes 3!) trophies await the successful trio. And there’s more – Cassoulet & Cassis will also be served. What’s not to like. Weather looks good. Last Year’s winners – Three in a bed – may be defending their title.
