Thursday afternoon club

copy-partie_delille.gif Now it’s light enough to play in the evening we will. We’ll start at 6pm and play until the light goes. There will always be a committee member there and we can open the jail house, sorry club house, at 5-30 to chat, look at noticeboard and then take stuff up to the terrain.

16th of April – the official opening of evening play we had 10 people which is a good start. However a few die hards are so used to playing on Thursday afternoons that they are going to continue. No problem. We can’t always guarantee a committee member to open up the clubhouse and provide rings etc but you don’t need that do you…

So if anyone wants to turn up at 1pm on Thursday it’s very likely that you’ll find a few members there.

Late Easter Report

eeggssEaster Sunday saw nearly 20 members take part in a melee which also was the first event in the summer league. Julie was the winner, Brendan was 2nd, Barrie 3rd and Robin 4th. Weather was great and we had a good day with the top 10 receiving an egg of sorts. Next event is Sunday 3rd May. Photos in the Gallery.

AGM Noon Sunday 19th April

Agenda and papers are on the club info page to download. Copies are in the club house and will be available on the day. It shouldn’t take too long and we can play afterwards. There will be a Q & A session with committee after the AGM and subs are due at the end of the AGM.

Pairs blown away.

Windy_2_tnbThe forecast had been heavy rain all day but most of the morning was still and sunny. Almost 14 teams gathered in the clubhouse and at 1pm we started the event.

First round was blustery with a spot or two of rain but during round 2 we were forced to retreat from heavy driving rain and the event was abandoned before the halfway point and we all went home to dry out. The terrain had standing water in many places.

Some teams had completed 2 games and if there was a winner it looked like Barrie & Pat but we all agreed to abandon and use the entry fees and award the prize money at a later event this year.

By 6 in the evening the storm had passed and it was calm and sunny again.

The Eternal Triangle

tri teamYesterday was the first triangular tournament between Heckmondwike, Huddersfield and Mirfield. It was invented by Clive, Secretary at Heckmondwike and looks likely to be copied by Huddersfield and Mirfield. 3 Clubs sent 4 teams of mostly pairs but some triples and each team played 4 games, 2 against each of the other teams. Sounds complicated but it worked well and after 3 and a half hours Heckmondwike had won 5 of their 16 games, Mirfield 7 and the winners were Huddersfield with 12 wins. A surprising result but very welcome.

The visiting teams were playing on a different surface to their home terrains but that’s one of the reasons the tournament was held. Add a beautiful sunny day, a lovely friendly crowd and lashings of tea, coffee and biscuits in the sumptuous pavilion and it made for a great day out. Here’s to the next event in another endless series. Well done the Greenheads! The team colours looked great.
