Sunday Impromptu Triples

We were meant to be playing a match with another club but they cancelled at the last minute so we played the teams that were selected in a 6 team triple event.

We ate the lunch halfway through that had been prepared; we gave out the prizes that had been allocated and we all had a good time.

In the final round the 2 unbeaten teams faced each other. Kevin, Maggie and Christine cleverly called KMC won the event; Hart to Hart took second place.

The MEPs fell away at the end. The strongest team in the event (holding the rest up) were 2 M’s and a C who celebrated with some parasol twirling.

With the 11am start and only 3 rounds we were finished by 2pm and went home to get out of the sun. A good day’s petanque.

Lease and Planning.

After years of hard work we have in our hands a lease and planning permission which together allow us to construct a new clubhouse next to our existing shed in Greenhead Park. Now we need a few bob to do it. See Clubhouse tab above.

Club Triples Champions

On a day that started dull, became warm when the sun came out then dropped to blooming’ freezing one team achieved 3 wins out of 3 and becomes club Triples Champions.

Barrie, Malcolm and Maggie – a scratch team on the day – won all 3 games and no-one else did. 7 triples lined up on the day so we ran an 8 team snake over 3 rounds. Sue Maureen and Nigel were 2nd.

Each member of the winning team took home a trophy to keep.

Next big event is an inter club match between us and Mansfield on Sunday 20th. Play starts at 1100.. If you’re not playing please come along and support.

Wonderful Wednesday at Wigginton

We were invited to take part in a quadruple tournament by Wiggington PC. Also invited were Bridlington and Hollicarrs. It was played similar to league games whereby teams played 2 triples and 3 pairs except each team did it 3 times so each team played 15 games in a day. Sounds a lot but it started at 1000 and was done by 1700. In the middle a sumptuous lunch was consumed. On the way there was unlimited tea and coffee and soft drinks. There were interesting elements. Games were time limited to 50 minutes. If time was called during an end the end was finished. This meant there were some draws (shock, horror).

At the conclusion of the day 2 teams tied for 1st place – Wiggington and naturally Huddersfield. The only way to split them was points difference and there were 4 points difference in favour of Wiggington. Our private expectation at the start was to win 50% of the games we played. We won 56% and came joint top.

The team of Elizabeth, Sandie, Rita, Richard, Phil, Fred, Roy and Paul performed brilliantly. They played at least 4 games each and some played 5 games. Teams were mixed up but everyone played their part and learned a lot about competition play and how to manage games. Our team colours looked good – 50 shades of green.

We enjoyed it so much we volunteered to host a similar event in September at Huddersfield.

Huddersfield International pairs

Fantastic event on Sunday 10th. Players from all over Europe – Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, France, Wales and Heckmondwike – played a leagues plus knockout tournament. 20 teams played leagues before lunchtime then the players were ranked and in the afternoon 8 played the main event, 8 played the Plate and 4 played the consolage. Flags of participating countries were flown on the registration desk. After lunch it was a KO and the full results will be posted on NP website shortly but Main event final was one of the best games ever seen at Huddersfield where Matt Blyton & Alex (from Germany) played Angie Gaughan and Maijje (from Finland) in an epic battle which ranged all over the terrain and almost every point was 5cm from the coche and almost every shot was a carreau.  Top quality tactics and performance. The girls were leading until late on in the game when the men overtook them and took the trophy and the first prize. Mounties won the Plate and a Team called And Again took the consolage. It was hot and sunny and club  members turned out to help with raffle and odd jobs which made the whole event go smoothly. Huge thanks to Nigel, Jack, Elaine, Richard, Amanda.More pictures on the way from many taken. It was the club’s first silver event and there are lessons to learn but overall a fantastic day with some of Europe’s top players. The 3 HPC teams didn’t win a pot but had a great day.
