Penultimate summer melee

It’s tense at the top. The first Sunday in September will see the trophy presented but it’s not over yet. Two players can reach 37 points by winning the next melee but only one first place is available. Sue has been consistent all summer and all she has to do is beat David in September to have her name engraved on the trophy. David has to win and hope Sue doesn’t get any points. Six other players can score more than 30 with a big score next time.

It’s all to play for!

Pat Beazley

It is with deep sadness that we have learnt of the death of our member Pat Beazley. Pat was a regular player and competitor at the club until recent illness prevented her from playing. She was a very popular member and will be sadly missed by everyone at the club. Our thoughts are with her partner Barrie and all her family”

Picnic – Well done everyone

First we played erect the gazebo.

The picnic in the Petanque area went well. 25 members enjoyed a great afternoon. We started with a 1 hour timed game than stopped to eat and drink. Then we had a 30 minute timed game followed by more food and drink. Members had been very generous with their contributions and there was plenty of food and drink left over!  25 members had a great afternoon, mostly in sunshine and no rain, playing pétanque and eating and drinking. Members over-contributed to the food and drink with some imaginative and tasty fare – most of it home made. Thanks to Sue who thought of the idea and organised the afternoon. Everyone present unanimously agreed that this should be a regular event in our calendar.

Club singles Champion

20 teams turned up although there was only one person in a team and the terrain looked really full as 10 games played out. After 3 rounds only 3 players had won all their games.

Geertje has the worst points difference so she had to be content with 3rd place but Roy playing on scratch and Maureen playing off +5 played out a the final game watched by the rest of the members.
It was a close affair but in the end the Handicapping committee’s hard work was justified with a 13-12 victory for Roy. Another trophy for the mantlepiece for Roy and a very promising result for Maureen who’s not been a member long and played really well all afternoon.

July Members melee

3 players won all 3 games. Sandra Livesey podiumed for the first time, Paul was second and Rita W was top of the pops. Rita leaps into 2nd place. Fancied runners such as Richard and Robin fall away. Dark Horses Paul & Christine A loom in the distance. The Wigganers fail to appear. Maybe they’re still looking for a parking space.
