Lazing on a sunny afternoon

kinksTuesday and Thursday turned out quite well. The sun shone (for a while) and the president of the Northern Region came along for a game on Tuesday. He said nice things about our terrain and about 10 members turned up for game. Most members said they learned a lot from playing with an experienced player.

Thursday was the first real Thursday as last week was rained off. 12 players were there at various times and we played until well after 8pm. Signed up 5 new members so I reckon we’re on 36.

Playing Calendar now live

calendarClick on the Calendar tab above and you’ll see some dates and events planned. The first club competition is on Sunday 25th May with a 3 round melee. Others follow at regular intervals.

There is a column headed Contact which is the person who will help organise the games. There will be times when committee members won’t be around and others have to help out. Please let us know if you can fill in any gaps.

Weather is not looking good. Last Thursday was rain and next Sunday and Tuesday look similar. Bring a waterproof or a brolly. There’s always the pub…

First Evening Session

junctionTomorrow at 1730 we meet in the Junction with a view to playing a couple of games at our first evening starting at 1800. All welcome.

All the usual stuff will be available – spare boules, coaches, tape measures etc. Remember a fleece jacket and if you think you need it a waterproof.

We still don’t have a base to store our equipment but work is being done behind the scenes to sort this out soon. Members now 31 with 29 of them having paid. Next target 40.

AGM News

agm20 people attended.

It was decided to a) Affiliate to Northern Petanque b) Buy PLI at £79-50 from Tennyson Insurance, c) Charge £10 a year subs and d)  Leave assets to Friends of Greenhead Park in the event of the club closing down.

Playing Calendar, Late Policy, Entry fees, Prize money and extra organisers were all discussed and agreed in line with AGM papers (available on request). The major problem is a base for the club but it is hoped to resolve this with KMC in the next week. Officers were Paul (Chair), Roy (Secretary) and Sue (Treasurer). Fund raising would be done as and when. 21 members paid their subs.

Meeting with KMC Tuesday 18th March

We discussed a base for the club to store paperwork, spare boules, rakes and maybe chairs. (The community room and the restrictions imposed by the café owner on its use make it impractical).

Two options were considered  – one a shed/clubhouse next to the terrain within the hedges. This was difficult for KMC as there was no funding available and if the club put one there it would a) cost money and b) raise issues of security and whether it was in keeping with the grade 2 listing of the park.

The second option of the park office (far end of community room & café) seemed more promising. It’s currently in use by park rangers and police as a base but infrequently and when the question was asked if the club could use it the answer wasn’t no. Other people will need to be consulted but it looks like a possibility. I asked for a key and that will be considered.

There will be KMC staff in the park on summer evenings until 1800 or 1900.

Minor works to the area surrounding the terrain will be tolerated. Park benches are unlikely as there is no money left. We can string the terrain to split it into 10 lanes. We can stencil lane numbers on.

The club will need £5m PLI insurance to use the rooms and the terrain once constituted. No way out. We can buy this from various sources and proposals will be brought to the AGM. This will have an effect on membership fees.
